    Zbigniew Płużek

    Graduate of the State Higher School of Music in Wrocław. He received his honours diploma in the bassoon class of Professor Stanisław Lech in 1974.

    In 1973–1976 Płużek played in the Great Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio and Television in Katowice and in 1977–1987 was the principal bassoonist in the National Philharmonic in Warsaw.

    He has been the principal bassoonist in the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra since 1989 to date, also performing with the orchestra as soloist in Poland and abroad.

    Płużek took part in many music competitions, receiving a number of prizes, including He is a member of the Da Camera Warsaw Wind Quintet, with which he has performed in many countries in Europe and in the United States. He has also made a number of recordings for radio and CD.

    Płużek has headed the bassoon class at the Academy of Music in Warsaw (currently the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music) since 1980. His graduates are laureates of many national and international competitions and musicians in leading Polish orchestras.

    For his activity he has received the Silver Cross of Merit in 1987, the Gold Cross of Merit in 2003 and the Order of Distinguished Service for Warsaw in 2014.
