On 20 May the gates at Grochowska Street will be open to the public until late into the evening, thanks to the nationwide Night of the Museums, which Sinfonia Varsovia joins again this year.
The Night of the Museums at Grochowska begins at 4 p.m. with a concert by the well-known mezzo-soprano Urszula Kryger, the first Polish singer to have played on the stage of the famous Italian La Scala years ago. The concert will also inaugurate the 7th edition of Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street – a cycle of 28 free concerts of classical music which will continue until the end of August on each Saturday and Sunday.
The next concert will begin exactly at sunset. On 20 May this will be 8:32 p.m. – this is when the audience will hear the first sounds played by the guitar duet of Woch & Guzik Duo. The works have been selected to make beautiful interplay with a romantic sunset – we will hear pieces by Spanish, French and Latin-American composers, including Astor Piazzolla’s Tango Suite and Manuel de Falla’s Danza del Molinero.
At the end, after dark, at 10:00 p.m. we will witness a performance by the Sinfonia Varsovia Academy’s cello octet directed by Sinfonia Varsovia cellist Piotr Mazurek. The artists will play works by Fauré, Rachmaninov, Pärt and Casals.
In the meantime the audience will have an opportunity to see an exhibition of large format photographs and a presentation of an ultra-large format camera (100 x 70 cm). The camera was built by photography aficionados from the Instytut Fotograficznych Technik Szlachetnych. For enthusiasts of artistic photography techniques there will be a photograph painting workshop using the gum oil technique. Participants will have an opportunity to process photographs of Warsaw from before the war and of the historical buildings at 272 Grochowska Street.
There will be an opportunity to hear about the latter during a presentation of the architectural design of the orchestra’s new home – the Sinfonia Varsovia Centrum. The history of the historical structures of the former Institute of Veterinary Science will be presented during the meeting, together with a conceptual design of the changes to take place together with the commencement of the construction of a music complex including the largest concert hall in Poland. The presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m.
