Invited especially by the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra, eminent musicians from the best orchestras in Europe will lead master classes for participants of the Sinfonia Varsovia Academy. The classes are open to the public.
The Sinfonia Varsovia Academy is a unique project in Poland, intended to prepare young musicians to play in orchestras. Run as individual classes and group sessions, the workshops are led by concert masters and leaders of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra. The courses are intended for Polish music school students and graduates under 26 years of age. The final selection of candidates takes place each year in auditions similar to orchestral auditions.
The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra’s Director Janusz Marynowski:“During the project auditions we select the best candidates, and then spend one year not only shaping their playing, but also their attitudes and behaviour to be worthy of musicians playing in the best orchestras. Each year, we only accept a small group of players, but those who pass the selection process during the auditions are then guided by the best musicians in our orchestra. Individually prepared workshop programmes prepare young adepts of orchestral performance for participation and winning in auditions for positions in orchestras and later to function in that peculiar organism – the symphony orchestra. In addition, the best “Academics”, as we in Sinfonia Varsovia call them, get a unique opportunity to apply in practice the skills which they have acquired during the project. We play nearly every concert with either participants or alumni of the Academy. To play under the direction of such greats as Charles Dutoit, Krzysztof Penderecki or the recently deceased Lorin Maazel is an incredible opportunity and honour for a young musician. As the Academics themselves say, after these concerts are over, their self-confidence increases and their attitude to auditions to work in orchestras changes completely”.
The icing on the cake for participants of the Sinfonia Varsovia Academy is free participation in master classes led by great musicians from the best orchestras. The courses at 272 Grochowska Street in Warsaw are open to the public.
"We just began this year’s Masterclass season, and we will conclude in early July", adds Janusz Marynowski.
Master classes led by Tomasz Tomaszewski, first concert master of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Professor of the Universität der Künste in Berlin are now in progress. In one week the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra will play with Stefan Dohr of the Berlin Philharmonic, considered to be the best horn player in the world. The public will have an opportunity to hear his art, as the master classes also feature a concert of chamber music. On Tuesday, 2 June at 7:00 p.m., the musician, called “the king of his instrument”, will play together with Michał Francuz (piano) and Jakub Haufa – concertmaster of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra.
In June (15-16 June, 2015) there are scheduled courses for flautists, led by French professor Jean-Claude Gérard, former principal flautist of the Paris Opera and of the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra.
In early July there will be courses for oboe players (2-3 July), led by Céline Moinet, principal oboe of the Dresden Staatskapelle, who also enjoys a solo career, frequently performing with renowned orchestras.
Master classes of the 3rd edition of the Sinfonia Varsovia Academy will conclude with a course for viola players led by Wilfried Strehle. The artist has enormous orchestral (having been the viola leader of the Berlin Philharmonic for several decades) and teaching (lecturer at the Universität der Künste in Berlin and at the famous Orchester Academy, which served as inspiration for the Sinfonia Varsovia Academy) experience.
