This is the fifteenth time the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra is playing for Warsaw residents! This year’s Franciszek Wybrańczyk Festival programme includes a symphonic concert, six chamber music concerts and a whole day spent on celebrating the Feast of Music at Grochowska Street.

The inaugural concert
of the 15th Sinfonia Varsovia to Its City festival took place on Thursday, 11 June in the Concert Studio of Polish Radio. The great Polish double bassist Bogusław Furtok played Serge Koussevitzky’s Double Bass Concerto in F-sharp minor Op.3 and Bruch’s Kol Nidrei Op.47 (Adagio in D minor on themes from Hebrew melodies). The soloist was accompanied by the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra conducted by José Luis Gomez. In the second part of the concert the musicians played Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F minor Op.36. In the course of the evening, laureates of the Franciszek Wybrańczyk Artistic Scholarship received awards financed by the Sinfonia Varsovia Foundation.

From June 12 to June 19 Sinfonia Varsovia hosted daily chamber music concerts in its home at 272 Grochowska Street, Warsaw). On Saturday and Sunday (13-14 June), as part of its Summer Concerts at Grochowska Street cycle at 4:00 p.m., a performance of a quartet of cellos took place, headed by Andrzej Bauer. On the other days (12, 15-19 June, at 6:00 p.m.), artists of the Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra will play in a number of chamber ensemble combinations. A varied programme will satisfy even the most demanding listeners.

The Feast of Music at Grochowska Street began at high noon on Sunday, 21 June with a concert on the lawn. The programme consisted of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Three Pieces in the Ancient Style from the film A Manuscript Found in Saragossa, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings in C major Op.48 and two works by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy – the 2nd Sinfonia in D major Op.43 for string orchestra and the Concerto in D minor for violin and strings, with Jakub Haufa in the double role of soloist and conductor.

We then move on to further items in the programme of the Feast of Music at Grochowska Street. These are three chamber music concerts (2:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.) followed by the grand finale – an interdisciplinary concert at 7:00 p.m. It will begin with Marcin A. Steczkowski (cornet, electronics) and Michał Zaborski (viola, electronics) playing their own compositions based on ethno and jazz motifs with elements of improvisation.
The 15th Franciszek Wybrańczyk Sinfonia Varsovia to Its City Festival will conclude with a performance by Mariusz “Wilk” Wilczyński and Marcel Markowski (cello) – live animations to Johann Sebastian Bach’s 2nd Cello Suite in D minor.

Admission to all chamber music concerts is free.
